OK, I don't have the time/energy at this point to really break down every session I'm attending... so, you'll have to do without. For now, the highlights.
The morning keynote was excellent (if not a bit long), and gave a good overview of
what's to come... if you want real detail, the keynote is transcribed here.
In other news...
As far as Avalon goes, suddenly the winform development world is looking a lot like
web development, in at least one key way... code behind. Huh? What?! Say it ain't
so! OK, it's not totally so, but the true separation of UI and coded logic is now
available for the winform app as well. If you haven't yet, I suggest you check
it out. XAML is coming, boys and girls... you've got 3 years to actually learn
UI design :)
MSBuild. Basically, it's a rewrite of VS.Net's build engine, this time on the outside
of devenv.exe. The project file format is human readable and writable now,
so your build scripts wind up being the project files themselves, and don't require
VS.Net whatsoever to build. Joy! Unfortunately, they chose to show post-PDC build
coding of these files in the session... LAME. I can find documentation later on, on
MSDN and elsewhere... I'm in LA so I can start using these tools, now.
The other highlight from Monday... the Weblogging BOF
session. Initially hosted by Robert McLaws, it quickly became a heated discussion
regarding where blogging development stands, and where it should go into the future.
It was very exciting to see the top bloggers arguing these points, along with others
that were just as passionate about this burgeoning technology. They, as do I, want
blogging as a real, social technology to succeed... we just need to find a destination,
and a common way to get there.
That's all for now... I'm going to try and catch up on Tuesday.
