Finding a decent source control solution for next to nothing can be difficult. SourceSafe is barely passable, so long as I'm not working with anyone that needs access over a WAN link (not to mention the paranoia that comes after you experience your first VSS database corruption adventure). But, there are others...

CVS is certainly the system of choice for the open-source folks, but while I pretend to know a little about Linux, I don't nearly trust myself enough to allow my source code to stay there; I'm just as likely to kill the OS as I am to do something right. CVSNT is spotty at best.

SourceGear Vault certainly appears to be an excellent solution, but is certainly not free, not even close.

So, I'm starting in on an adventure with Perforce. It looks good, has a few different interfaces for the repository, and most important of all, hooks into Visual Studio.Net via SCC, and is well integrated with my bug tracker of choice. Best of all, it's totally free. Well, free for up to 2 users, but that's all I need right now anyway.

I haven't gotten very far with it, I only just now downloaded the installers... but it's lunchtime, time to update the ol' blog. I'll likely post updates if it goes bad... if everything goes well, I'll probably put an "all clear" message in a post somewhere.

I vote for the latter option. :)
